LSU opened its season last weekend at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI, and it was an experience as a football fan that I will not forget. The Tigers are used to opening the season in some pretty big venues, but this is the most unique trip that I have been a part of with LSU. I am very thankful that I was able to experience this with our team and staff, and we fit A LOT into just a little over 36 hours.
When we arrived in Green Bay we immediately hopped on the buses and went straight to Lambeau Field for walk-thru. This is when the coaches and players get familiar with the field, locker room and other parts of the stadium. It was kind of a surreal experience walking through the tunnel onto Lambeau Field. You know there is so much history that has taken place in that stadium, and walking out to see it for the first time was pretty amazing.
It was so neat to see the players get excited to be in such a historical stadium, but it was also fun to see the coaches be pretty excited as well. Everyone was taking pictures and videos to document the day. Since my husband, Shea, is a member of the media he was also there. It is fun for me to be able to experience all the cool aspects of gameday together with him. We then went on a tour of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, which was so cool. Also, the welcome from LSU fans who were already at Lambeau was amazing as we walked through the Hall of Fame. I wouldn’t expect anything less from the traveling Tiger faithful!
After walk-thru and the tour, we boarded the buses and headed to Appleton, WI where we stayed. Of course we had to try some local beer, cheese curds (they were delicious, but I still can’t get over the name ‘curd’!) and other cheese themed dinner items that night at the Appleton Beer Factory. Since we played a day game, we got up early the next morning to head back to Green Bay for the game. The pre-game experience on the sidelines of Lambeau Field was amazing, and it was fun to see all of the LSU fans who had traveled all the way up to Green Bay!
These away game trips are quick and we leave right after the game ends. However, our plane ran into a little trouble and was delayed, so we didn’t get to leave Wisconsin until 1am and arrived back to Baton Rouge at 4am. It made for a very tired day at work on Sunday! The game didn’t end how we anticipated, but it was still a memorable trip in many ways. This weekend is our first home game in Tiger Stadium, so expect to see more Gameday Recaps coming up this season! As always, let me know if you have any questions on working with the team, my gameday outfits or anything else!
