It was another busy weekend in Baton Rouge with LSU opening up their SEC schedule vs Mississippi State. Gameday started early and ended late for me, but I wouldn’t have it any other way when my office is Tiger Stadium.
For home games, my work on Saturdays starts off with tailgating for CST’s LSU GameDay Live. If you are a college football fan, you are probably an avid watcher of ESPN’s College GameDay. Well, we are a somewhat smaller production and only cover LSU. It is pretty much the perfect show for LSU Football fans. Each week I interview Coach Miles, put together a feature story about something behind the scenes of LSU football and find a tailgate for our live show when the Tigers are at home.
This weekend, I found the perfect tailgate to feature. Not only was the group tailgating for the game, but they were also celebrating an engagement from the night before. So, of course, I had the couple reenact the proposal on camera! Just like all of the tailgates we visit, everyone was hospitable and so much fun to talk to. I meet so many different types of people when I do this, and I love it!
If we don’t have official visits (more on this to come throughout the season…) I go home to do some more work before returning to the stadium three hours before kickoff. There is nothing like Tiger Stadium when it is full to capacity with over 102,000 LSU fans, but I also love how peaceful it is when it’s empty right before a game.
When it comes to my gameday outfit, I am a big fan of tennis shoes with my dress clothes. I remember over the spring seeing fashion bloggers instagramming about this ‘new trend’ of wearing Nike tennis shoes with everyday clothes. Well, it’s not too new to me, because I have been wearing tennis shoes on the sidelines for years. With all the walking that we do on gameday, it is just so much easier and more comfortable to wear tennis shoes. It has also become kind of a signature for me, and each Saturday my friends and other media people always ask what shoes I have on.
This game was the ‘Gold Game’ when LSU encourages all fans to wear gold to the game. I bought this ella moss top before the season started, and I am so glad I didn’t wear it to Wisconsin and saved it for this game. (Yes, those are the types of things I think of when putting together a gameday outfit!) The stadium was filled with gold! Even the players were outfitted in brand-new ‘Gridiron Gold’ jerseys to wear for this game only.
For me it was also ‘Take Your Dad to Work Day’. I love when my parents are able to come to the games. It is one of the only ways I get to see them during the fall. Sharing my experiences working for LSU with my family and friends is easily one of my favorite parts of my job.
One of the main reasons I started this blog part of my website was to have an outlet to write about being a woman working in sports. This is something that I am going to concentrate on moving forward. The first thing I will write about is finding other ladies who work in sports who get it. These two, Sharon and Tam, have been those ladies for me for the last 11 years. Yes, 11 years. I’m excited to write more about this, because they are a big part of why I have been successful in sports.
It’s always nice to end a long day with a win! Here is my post-game interview with LSU Head Coach Les Miles recapping LSU’s 23-20 win over Mississippi State and looking forward to going to Auburn this weekend. And, the day called for like a 100% chance of rain and there was none! Just a ton of humidity which is evident by my hair in this interview!
