Here they are! Each year, New Year’s resolutions are written down in January, thought about in February, and maybe you’re still waiting to start them in March. Then, just like that, it’s summertime, half the year is gone and so are those resolutions. Well, not this year my friends! I am going to start this New Year by incorporating my resolutions into my regular blog posts, so this post will be updated a few times. This way I can stay on track and have some accountability to start 2017 off right!
This is always my no. 1 resolution, and I am pretty sure it will always be. I need to stop sweating the small stuff and focus on the bigger picture. Conquering my sometime short fuse will also help with each of the following resolutions. Deep breaths, my essential oils, yoga and daily reflection will all help with the improvement of my patience.
You can read more here about how I am working on this with some new jewelry.
BE A BETTER WIFE
This is another resolution that will always be on my list. I work so many hours each week that I am burned out by the time I get home and a lot of things I should do fall to the wayside. I am such a good “work wife” that sometimes my actual husband doesn’t get to reap the benefits of that. He does so much for me each day to make my schedule easier that it is about time I focus on him more. This is way overdue, and I am excited to focus on this resolution this year.
GET MY BUTT BACK IN GEAR
Yes, I know this is the most boring, basic and annoying New Year’s resolution there is, but it needs to be written. I am an avid runner, but each football season my mileage decreases. This past season was so crazy and hectic that I barely ran at all. When I don’t regularly run, I can tell a difference not only in my health but also in my overall attitude…and so can Shea. Not only do I want to get back to training for races but also try some new classes around town and get back to yoga (all of this helps with resolution numero uno to be more patient).
LEARN HOW TO DO MY HAIR AND MAKEUP
I have worked on-camera since 2010, and I am still am not completely comfortable with doing my hair and makeup. In November, I won a beauty giveaway over on Carrie Bradshaw Lied, and I have this huge box of beauty products to play with and no clue where to start. It is time for this almost 30-year-old to watch some YouTube and Sephora tutorial videos and get my face in gear (to match getting my butt in gear).
I have always loved to read ever since I was a kid. Once I started working in football while also going to grad school the last three years, books were few and far between. I currently have two books that I only read half of in 2016. Now that I do not have to read anymore academic papers, I am first going to finish those books and then concentrate on getting some good “Girl Boss” knowledge in my life.
BE BETTER WITH MY PHONE
This encompasses a few different things. First of all, I am horrible with responding to text messages. I read them and then respond two days later and every response starts with, “Sorry for the delayed response!” My phone is NEVER updated, and I have over 8,000 pictures on my iPhone that need a new home. Lastly, I don’t feel like I am on my phone as much as most people I know, but I still feel like it’s too much. Sometimes we all just need to disconnect.
Well, not necessarily work less, but make time for more things in my life than just work. My excuse for family events, get togethers with friends, weddings, etc. is always that I have to work or I am too tired from working to do these things. Tired or not, busy or not, I want to make a point this year to spend more time on the things in life that matter more than working a million hours.
I am starting this year out by not purchasing any clothes, shoes or accessories in the month of January. (I think if I put this in writing I will have a better chance of accomplishing it.) I bought more than enough during the winter sales and in Orlando at the bowl game, so now it is time for a break. This also helps with staying on a budget (which is very important to me this year) and enjoying all of the great pieces I already own.

What are some of your New Year’s resolutions? I would love to hear some others that I can also incorporate into my year. This list could easily get up to at least 20 resolutions, but I feel like it is important to start out concentrating on the most important ones.

Happy New Year to you all! Here’s to a fabulous 2017!!
