This month’s edition of my Must-Have List is focused on tips and tricks to get you through all of the parades this Mardi Gras season, including some special outfits. I have so much fun putting together my Mardi Gras parade outfit for the weekend, especially this one! Mardi Gras is the time of year where pretty much anything goes, so I like to put a few kind of ‘out there’ outfits together. And, you don’t really get many crazy looks with whatever you are wearing… because, hey, it’s Mardi Gras!
The Perfect Mardi Gras Parade Outfit
I shared a classic purple, green and gold casual parade outfit here, but I also like this look because it’s a little crazy and very different than anything else I would normally wear. It might not feature the traditional Mardi Gras colors, but it does have sequins, wigs, lots of bright color and a fun message.
When I found these headwraps by local New Orleans designer fringe + co., I knew I HAD to incorporate them into my Mardi Gras looks this year. Clearly I couldn’t buy just one, so I picked a classic Mardi Gras one plus this metallic rainbow headwrap. I think it will look perfect for Jazz Fest later this spring too!
I bought multiple wigs this year – a hot pink one, an electric purple option and this white one – to wear throughout the weekend. Who wouldn’t want to switch up their look for a day or two? Wigs are the perfect non-committal way to change it up, and you also have the extra bonus of not having to do your hair each day. Win-win if you ask me!
This graphic tee has a good Mardi Gras vibe, because this is a time where people from all kinds of different backgrounds with unique views come together to celebrate. With everything going on in the world these days, it’s important to remember this very true, yet very simple message.
BE A NICE HUMAN.
I think it’s funny how all of the shoes that were popular when I was in junior high are making a fashion comeback. First it was the adidas Superstar, and now it’s this classic pair of Vans. These cyclical trends are kind of making me wish I would have kept that box full of Dr. Martens from high school! I actually want to buy a new pair of those too!
This pair of Vans is a fun shoe to style with, and I like the platform option that I’m wearing here. Every inch counts when you’re my height, so I appreciate a little extra, even on a pair of tennis shoes. It helps me get a little closer to the floats to get some Moon Pies and spears!
We are a week away from Mardi Gras day, but this weekend is my favorite part of the season. I’m hoping that I will be able to wear these sunglasses, because right now the forecast is filled with rain. We aren’t going to let that dampen our Mardi Gras weekend… even though it might make for some wet wigs!
