LSU Gameday Shopping Guide

Gameday, Style Baton Rouge, Gameday Outfit, LSU, Outfits August 13, 2018

Everyone wants to be a winner on gameday, so you might as well start the day out in the right direction with a winning LSU gameday outfit!

Putting together gameday outfits has easily become one of my favorite hobbies, and I like to shop for items throughout the year to wear for games during the fall. I get a lot of questions about where I purchase my clothes and accessories that I wear on the sidelines, so I thought I would put everything in one place to help you shop all throughout football season!

Also, new in 2019 is THE GAMEDAY SHOP! THE GAMEDAY SHOP is a place specifically designed for LSU fans to directly shop for all things purple, gold and tiger print, so you can cheer on the Tigers in style. THE GAMEDAY SHOP will be updated as items go out of stock and when I find new pieces to add to each category, so be sure to visit it here!

This LSU Gameday Shopping Guide includes my favorite places to shop for all things purple, gold and tiger print, stylish stadium-approved clear bags, specific local brands and boutiques that cater to Tiger fans and much more! Believe it or not, I do have somewhat of a science to picking out my gameday outfits, and each of these boutiques and brands has helped me get LSU gameday day ready at some point during football season.

SWEET BATON ROUGE

Sweet Baton Rouge is a local brand that is constantly putting out Louisiana themed t-shirts and gear throughout the year that represent our Southern pride, and they have a section of inventory devoted specifically to LSU Gameday. I’ve worked with the Sweet Baton Rouge team multiple times (find more gameday options here and here + some Baton Rouge love here) and am excited to show off some of their newest designs for the upcoming football season!

They describe their LSU gameday tees as “Death Valley approved”, and I definitely agree! I know there are a lot of t-shirt brands to choose from, but I continue to work with Sweet Baton Rouge because of their creative designs, extremely comfortable pieces and exceptional quality.

— SHOP CLEAR BAGS FOR YOUR LSU GAMEDAY LOOK —

I’ve written a few posts on shopping for clear bags (see here and here) that I might even call myself an expert on the topic! When it comes to style, a lot has changed on the clear bag front with designers producing cute clear bags each year that can easily transition after gameday. Also, don’t forget that clear bags are not only using for football games and all other LSU Athletics events, but they are also needed for concerts, professional games and other events in venues that follow a clear bag policy.

Many of the local shops I listed above carry a variety of clear bags here in Baton Rouge.

SAAVYROOT | I think SAAVYROOT was the first designer to come out with a stylish clear bag as soon as LSU’s Geaux Clear policy came out. A few years later and she now offer bags in multiple colors for LSU and Saints games.

GEAUX CLEAR COLLECTION | The name of the company says it all and their motto is “style that wins”. Created by an LSU alum, these bags get a makeover each year with new styles added to the inventory. Check out their Fall 2019 collection here.

JON HART DESIGN | I grew up toting around Jon Hart pieces, so it made sense that I had to have a clear bag by them. Well, I ended up with a couple of their clear bags! They sent me their clear becky bag designed specifically for LSU last year and now offer team logos from across the country and bag colors to match any university. I also recently picked up their Trinity bag that is three-bags-in-one including a clear bag!

HAMPTON ROAD DESIGNS | This is a new clear bag brand I was introduced to this year, and I am excited to style their pieces for this football season. You pick your clear bag and can interchange straps to match your team or whatever look you are going for. Shop the collection with a 20% OFF DISCOUNT + FREE SHIPPING using the code “GeauxTigers” (case sensitive) through November 17, 2019.

REMEMBER – LSU fans must Geaux Clear for ALL athletics events, not just football, so you need to invest in a clear bag to create your perfect gameday outfit!

— SHOP FOR YOUR GAMEDAY —

Clearly, my gameday outfits focus on purple and gold, but a lot of my favorite gameday items also have options to personalize for your own specific school. From jewelry to dresses, you can represent your university by buying items from the brands below in your team’s colors. These are my favorite places to shop for LSU items, as well as shop by color. I’ve done separate blog posts for quite a few of these brands that I linked below, but here is also a quick list of brands/stores.

KENDRA SCOTT | Kendra Scott is probably the easiest accessory brand to shop by your preferred team color, and they so many options for each university.

Now, the brand carries more colors, including a perfect LSU purple, to wear on gameday! There’s a very good chance that there are available styles in your team’s colors too.

STEWART SIMMONS | Stewart Simmons is an apparel company out of Atlanta that specializes in gameday clothes for multiple different schools. I will share more about the brand soon, but until then, you can shop with a 20% OFF DISCOUNT using the code “EDIXON20” (case sensitive) throughout the 2019 season. I picked out this reversible tank, this t-shirt, this dress and this casual tee to wear for the upcoming season.

LISI LERCH | I have no clue how it took me so long to discover this jewelry brand, but they have so many cute earrings, necklaces and other accessories that will take your gameday outfit to the next level. Their grape color and gold pieces are perfect for LSU fans, but they also offer every other color imaginable for your specific school.

MILLIE MAE COLLECTION | The designer behind Millie Mae reached out to me earlier this season, and I was so impressed with the style and quality of these earrings. I have been sharing them over on Instagram all season, but my favorites are the Sara earrings in yellow, the Katie earrings in purple and the Evie earrings in purple. In all honestly, I want the entire collection. Shop the collection with a 15% OFF DISCOUNT using the code “emilydixon15” (case sensitive).

Gameday Your Way with JaneHudson

Gameday, Style Gameday Outfit, LSU, Outfits August 13, 2018

The 2018 LSU Football season will be my seventh season full-time with LSU and my tenth total with the Tigers (counting my years as a student worker). I am thankful each and every day for the opportunities this university and this team have given me over the last decade, and I look forward to every new season with excitement and anticipation like it’s my first!

While I am busy preparing for the upcoming season at work and putting together my gameday outfits, the ladies of JaneHudson inspired me to think about what LSU Football really means to me. This was a fun post to put together, because it made me think of all of the reasons why I love LSU and this team so passionately. It was also fun to play dress up in JaneHudson’s newest gameday colors and styles!

WHEN I THINK OF LSU GAMEDAY MY WAY, I THINK…

I can’t believe I get paid to do this for a living! Working for the LSU Football team is literally a dream come true for me. I often get asked if my main career goal is to work for ESPN or another network, but a lot of times, I feel like I am already living one of my goals. I have wanted to report on sports for as long as I can remember, but instead of reporting on all teams and multiple sports, I get to focus on LSU Football – my favorite team and sport. Why would I give that up? Also, I get to experience LSU Football from the inside and behind the scenes, so I get to be a real part of this team. I wouldn’t change my busy gamedays with this team for anything!

Since I am working, LSU Football gamedays are packed full from morning to night. I start each gameday by finding a unique tailgate to feature on Cox Sports Television’s LSU GameDay Live show. Then, I transition to my recruiting role working unofficial and official visits. During and after that, I interview former players and other guests of LSU on the sidelines during pre-game, cover the game in the press box, interview Coach O after the game and then get home hours after the clock hits 00:00. With only 6-7 home games each season, these are the best days of the entire year!

When I think of LSU gameday my way, I also think of gameday outfits…duh! With a full schedule, I need a comfortable outfit that can last ALL day long. I was so excited when JaneHudson came out with their purple and gold collection this summer, so I can wear these comfy pieces on the sidelines and while traveling with the team!

WHAT DOES LSU FOOTBALL MEAN TO ME?

SO MUCH. LSU Football has always been a part of my life. I grew up going to LSU games, and when we couldn’t make it to Baton Rouge, my family was always watching back home in Houston. We never missed the Tigers on TV, and I would keep stats throughout each game. I don’t know what I ever did with those stats, but I guess I was just preparing for the job I have now. Many of our family memories center around LSU Football, and it is something that is enjoyed by every family member.

LSU Football is a part of my family, and after a decade of working for the Tigers, LSU Football has also become my family. I spend more time with our coaches and players than I do with my own family, so it is a blessing to be so close to this staff.

I even met my husband through LSU Football. We both covered the team for an online publication during the 2011 season when LSU went 13-0 and appeared in the National Championship. We went to multiple road games together, including the “Game of the Century” in Tuscaloosa and the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. I think we had one of the most exciting first years of dating out of anyone we know! If it weren’t for LSU Football, I don’t know if we would have ever met! (We graduated on the same day in the same major from LSU and still didn’t know each other in college.)

Simply put, LSU Football is special. It’s extremely special to me and my family, our friends, fans and the entire state of Louisiana.

I CAN HONESTLY SAY, I DON’T KNOW WHERE I WOULD BE WITHOUT LSU FOOTBALL.

“LOVE PURPLE, LIVE GOLD”

The university’s main slogan is, “Love Purple, Live Gold”, and while it may be hard to explain to some, there is a just a special type of feeling LSU fans get when hearing those four simple words. I think of growing up a Tiger fan to my four years as an undergraduate to working for the university, earning my Master’s and supporting this team on a daily basis. It’s hard to put into words what these colors mean, but it is something special that unites all Tiger fans.

JaneHudson’s collection of classic and timeless pieces embody a lifestyle filled with spirit, experiences, adventures and fun – just like my 10 years working with LSU Football have been! The brand also introduced new styles to represent the motto, “Love Purple, Live Gold”, with their purple and gold fabrics. With so many color combos, you can GAMEDAY YOUR WAY with JaneHudson and represent your favorite team in style too!

I have never been an athlete myself, but I am so glad a big part of my life has been a part of this team.

How to Spend the Off-Season when You Work in Sports

Life in Football LSU, Working in Sports July 3, 2018

It’s finally summertime! Yes, I know it is July, but it’s finally summer for those of us who work in college football. See, the college football season starts the first weekend in September and goes until your team plays in a bowl game. This could mean your season ends sometime in December or early January, but that doesn’t mean that work is over. It’s actually quite the opposite. With a demanding recruiting schedule that is 247/365, football literally never stops, and time off is like gold around here. Every sport has a different off-season, or a “less busy part of the year”, so when you are given the opportunity to wind down, it is necessary that you make the most of it.

In college football, our time to take vacation and slow down is the month of July. After going through quite a few football seasons by now (I’m entering my 7th full-time with LSU), I know exactly how I like to spend my less busy part of the year.

It’s hard to believe that I just finished my sixth season with the LSU Football team. Each year brings new memories, friends, coaches, stadium visits, and so many experiences that I want to remember forever. We welcomed home the 2007 National Championship team (and Coach Miles!), completed our first full season under Coach O and celebrated the Comeback game versus SEC West rival Auburn. It’s hard to put every fun memory about the football season into one post, but I am going to try! Here is a full recap of my experiences and stories from the 2017 LSU football season.

Sideline Style | Choosing My Gameday Outfit

Gameday, Style Gameday Outfit, LSU, Outfits, Sideline Style October 24, 2017

I purchase quite a bit of purple and gold clothes and accessories throughout the year getting ready for the football season. A lot of times I already have a game in mind for when I am going to wear one item over another. I found a perfect purple dress in August and knew it was going to be my Bama outfit in November. I also scooped up the cutest gold sweater in September that is going to be either my gameday or travel outfit for the upcoming Tennessee game. It might not seem like it, but there is a science (haha) to picking out a successful gameday outfit.

We are eight games into the season, but I still have four more to dress for this year! This is what goes on in my mind when I choose what I am going to wear on the sidelines each week.

Gameday | LSU vs Auburn Recap

Gameday, Life in Football Gameday Recap, LSU, Working in Sports October 17, 2017

LSU – Auburn, y’all. Each year this rivalry game produces a memorable finish and adds to the long chapter of history between these two teams. There was the “Earthquake Game” in 1988 and the “Night the Barn Burned” in 1996. In 2007, the year of LSU’s last National Championship, LSU was trailing 24-23 in the final seconds of the game when Matt Flynn found an open Demetrius Byrd for the game-winning touchdown. I will never forget being in the student section for that game as Byrd came down with the game-winner as one second remained on the clock.

And, of course, we can’t forget the last time LSU and Auburn met before last Saturday afternoon. In 2016, the LSU Tigers went into Jordan-Hare Stadium thinking we had won on a last second touchdown, only for it to be taken off the board and the head coach fired the next day.

Now, we have another one to add to the list.

The Comeback.
