Friday Favorites | Lady Jacket

Style EVD Favorites, Friday Favorites, Outfit February 10, 2017

It is so easy to get caught up in the trends with LIKEtoKNOW.it on Instagram, and then all of the sudden I have spent my budget for clothes on items that will not exactly stand the test of time. I am all for trying out new styles and looks, but when it comes to dropping some extra money on a piece of clothing, I feel like it should be something that will live in your closet for a long time. This leads me to this week’s Friday Favorites that focuses on the different ways you can style J. Crew’s Lady Jacket. BONUS: This jacket is now ON SALE!

One of my New Year’s resolutions is to shop smarter, and one way to do this is to buy items that are versatile and can be worn in a variety of ways. Last week, I showed you 3 different ways to wear a camo jacket, and this week I am showing you two different ways to style my lady jacket.

POST: Cropped Lady Jacket

When I decided I wanted to style this fancy jacket in a casual way, I went straight to the source – jcrew.com. Lucky for me, I already purchased the turtleneck that they paired with the jacket.

POST: OTK Boots and Mini Skirts

Now, it is time to dress it up! These over-the-knee boots were the perfect partner for this jacket.

Friday Favorites | Camo Jacket

Style Outfit February 3, 2017

It is no secret that I quickly became obsessed with my camo jacket from Abercrombie & Fitch, and it is now back in stock!! Y’all, this literally just happened, because I had written this whole post as if it was sold out…which it was a few days ago. Put this in your shopping cart now! I full heartedly believe that this or a similar jacket needs to be a part of your wardrobe. For reference, I am wearing a size small. I could easily fit into the XS but also wanted to be able to layer underneath it.

I styled this jacket a few different ways and linked each post here, so you can find them all in one spot. I wore this jacket with way more outfits than I initially thought, so I wanted to share how you can also incorporate camo into your everyday wardrobe. This Friday Favorites is dedicated to my trusty, goes with everything, and oh, so comfy camouflage jacket that you can wear each and every season.

Working for the Weekend Wear
I finally found the best casual sweat set from Splendid (sweatshirt and joggers), and I knew the best way to wear it out of the house was to pair it with my camo jacket. I feel like it makes you look a little more put together than giving the look “I have been at home all day cuddling puppies and watching Bravo” (which is my definition of Heaven AKA the best day ever!).

Peace Be With Your Outfit
This was the first outfit that I styled with my camo jacket, and it easily takes a jeans a t-shirt look up a notch. Living in South Louisiana, this jacket is a great light weight option for our unpredictable weather. Like I styled int the post above, I also love this look with a striped shirt underneath the jacket. Mix those prints, ladies!

The Perfect Sweater
I paired my camo jacket with another Abercrombie favorite of mine – the perfect sweater. I have talked about this before, but I am so amazed by all of the cute and stylish options that Abercrombie offers right now. I have a spring style list a mile along that is half A&F. Also, as of right now, this is my favorite shoot I have done, because City Park in Baton Rouge is just too gorgeous, and this is an outfit that I have had on repeat.

OTK Boots and Mini Skirts

Style Outfit January 24, 2017

I have wanted a pair of over-the-knee boots for a while, but I was convinced that short girls could not pull them off. OTK boots for most people would equate to thigh-high on me. I eyed a pair of black suede Tory Burch boots for two seasons before I finally pulled the trigger during her Black Friday sale. Not only did I snag a pair of TB boots for a great price, but I also found a new trend that I can wear no matter how tall (or short) I am.

Cropped Lady Jacket

Style Outfit January 20, 2017

My mom gave me this tweed jacket from J. Crew for Christmas, and she nailed it with this gift. I have a hard time telling others what I would like for Christmas, but my mom always picks out something that goes in my closet and that I love. You can’t get much more classic than a black tweed cropped lady jacket, and as soon as I opened this present I couldn’t wait to get to styling it. Channeling Jackie O!

The Perfect Sweater

Style Outfit January 18, 2017

I remember when I was in junior high and high school everyone wore Abercrombie & Fitch…except me. Their jeans were like $90, which in the late 90’s and early 2000’s was way too expensive, and I am the last of five kids so my parents were not spending that. And, my mom hated the catalog (anyone else’s mom out there feel the same way?!). I was still rocking my size 14 youth jeans from Limited Too and wishing I had one of those t-shirts with the moose on it. Well, now that I am an adult and can do whatever I want, I shop at Abercrombie!

Until I saw Krystal from A Pinch of Lovely styling some of their clothes recently, I had no idea that Abercrombie was still open much less had super cute new styles. I found this cable knit sweater on sale during the holidays, and it has become a go-to in my closet because it is literally the perfect sweater.

New Year’s Blogging Resolutions

Uncategorized Lifestyle, Outfit January 16, 2017

I made my ownNew Year’s resolutions at the beginning of the month, but I wanted to come up with a second list that is purely blog related. I am a fan of making lists for any and everything, so this is another way I can remember what I set out to do. I have been “blogging” for a little over a year now and find something new about it every single day. Now that I am finished with grad school, I can use those extra free hours each week to devote to this blog and website. Here are my blogging resolutions for 2017!

Get Ahead Of Posts
One of the things that always gets me is trying to write, edit pictures and put everything together the day I want to publish a post. By organizing my week and getting ahead, I feel like I will be able to eliminate the stress of blogging. I love to plan and map things out, but my hectic work schedule sometimes doesn’t allow for that. If I can consistently get ahead and have posts and pictures stocked up and ready to go, I will feel better and have more fun blogging. Full disclaimer: I am writing this post the day that I am posting it, because I worked over 30 hours this past weekend and did not have any free time. This will be a work in progress!

Update Social Media Channels

Each time I think of something that I need to do while reading other blogs, I make a list in the notes on my phone or on a good ole’ Post-It note. A lot of times each item on my list is a task that will take a good amount of time to accomplish. This year, when I think about pinning all of my posts on Pinterest or updating my YouTube channel, I am going to block out a day or week or whatever I need to concentrate on one social media channel at a time. I’m not successful if I try to do it all at once, so I need to plan out my tasks based on the amount of time I need to dedicate to each one. Focusing on a channel each week will help me stay concentrated on one thing at a time and with making every space cohesive.

Learn My Camera
I received my Canon DSLR as a Christmas gift a few years ago with the intentions of learning photography during my “free time”. Shea and I bring the camera everywhere with us and are always taking pictures, especially now for the blog, but I haven’t taken the time to properly learn the ins and outs of it. I want to really get to know my settings, the best time and place to take pictures and all of the other details to make our pictures look nicer. These pictures were clearly taken in the wrong lighting situation, but again full disclosure, we took them after brunching for a few hours after more than a few mimosas! I really like this out fit and still wanted to share it with y’all.

Have Fun On Social Media
I love this blog, but it is not my full-time job or even my part-time job right now. I want to spend more time on it, but the reality is that my real job (you know, the one that pays the bills) takes up the majority of my life. I need to look at Instagram and blogging as fun again and not use it as a platform to compare myself and my work to other people out there. I have met some of the ladies behind local brands in Baton Rouge through Instagram and realized how fun that part of social media can be. It is a great way to meet new people in your community who have shared interests.

Remember Why I Started Blogging
I did not start blogging to become a fashion expert or receive free clothing items. I started this blog because I frequently have young women ask me about my life in sports. That paired with my love of all things local and a passion for fashion are what make this blog unique. I need to constantly remind myself to stay true to that. There is a way to be able to mix all of my interests while being unique and myself in this whole blogging thing.
