Everyone wants to be a winner on gameday, so you might as well start the day out in the right direction with a winning LSU gameday outfit!

Putting together gameday outfits has easily become one of my favorite hobbies, and I like to shop for items throughout the year to wear for games during the fall. I get a lot of questions about where I purchase my clothes and accessories that I wear on the sidelines, so I thought I would put everything in one place to help you shop all throughout football season!

Sweet Baton Rouge is a local brand that is constantly putting out Louisiana themed t-shirts and gear throughout the year that represent our Southern pride, and they have a section of inventory devoted specifically to LSU Gameday. I’ve written a few posts on shopping for clear bags (see here and here) that I might even call myself an expert on the topic! When it comes to style, a lot has changed on the clear bag front with designers producing cute clear bags each year that can easily transition after gameday. Also, don’t forget that clear bags are not only using for football games and all other LSU Athletics events, but they are also needed for concerts, professional games and other events in venues that follow a clear bag policy.

Many of the local shops I listed above carry a variety of clear bags here in Baton Rouge.

SAAVYROOT | I think SAAVYROOT was the first designer to come out with a stylish clear bag as soon as LSU’s Geaux Clear policy came out. A few years later and she now offer bags in multiple colors for LSU and Saints games.

GEAUX CLEAR COLLECTION | The name of the company says it all and their motto is “style that wins”. Created by an LSU alum, these bags get a makeover each year with new styles added to the inventory. Check out their Fall 2019 collection here.

JON HART DESIGN | I grew up toting around Jon Hart pieces, so it made sense that I had to have a clear bag by them. Well, I ended up with a couple of their clear bags! The 2018 LSU Football season will be my seventh season full-time with LSU and my tenth total with the Tigers (counting my years as a student worker). I am thankful each and every day for the opportunities this university and this team have given me over the last decade, and I look forward to every new season with excitement and anticipation like it’s my first!

While I am busy preparing for the upcoming season at work and putting together my gameday outfits, the ladies of JaneHudson inspired me to think about what LSU Football really means to me. This was a fun post to put together, because it made me think of all of the reasons why I love LSU and this team so passionately. It was also fun to play dress up in JaneHudson’s newest gameday colors and styles!

WHEN I THINK OF LSU GAMEDAY MY WAY, I THINK…

I can’t believe I get paid to do this for a living! Working for the LSU Football team is literally a dream come true for me. I often get asked if my main career goal is to work for ESPN or another network, but a lot of times, I feel like I am already living one of my goals. I have wanted to report on sports for as long as I can remember, but instead of reporting on all teams and multiple sports, I get to focus on LSU Football – my favorite team and sport. Why would I give that up? Also, I get to experience LSU Football from the inside and behind the scenes, so I get to be a real part of this team. I wouldn’t change my busy gamedays with this team for anything!

Since I am working, LSU Football gamedays are packed full from morning to night. I start each gameday by finding a unique tailgate to feature on Cox Sports Television’s LSU GameDay Live show. Then, I transition to my recruiting role working unofficial and official visits. During and after that, I interview former players and other guests of LSU on the sidelines during pre-game, cover the game in the press box, interview Coach O after the game and then get home hours after the clock hits 00:00. With only 6-7 home games each season, these are the best days of the entire year!

When I think of LSU gameday my way, I also think of gameday outfits…duh! With a full schedule, I need a comfortable outfit that can last ALL day long. I was so excited when JaneHudson came out with their purple and gold collection this summer, so I can wear these comfy pieces on the sidelines and while traveling with the team!

WHAT DOES LSU FOOTBALL MEAN TO ME?

SO MUCH. LSU Football has always been a part of my life. I grew up going to LSU games, and when we couldn’t make it to Baton Rouge, my family was always watching back home in Houston. We never missed the Tigers on TV, and I would keep stats throughout each game. I don’t know what I ever did with those stats, but I guess I was just preparing for the job I have now. Many of our family memories center around LSU Football, and it is something that is enjoyed by every family member.

LSU Football is a part of my family, and after a decade of working for the Tigers, LSU Football has also become my family. I spend more time with our coaches and players than I do with my own family, so it is a blessing to be so close to this staff.

I even met my husband through LSU Football. We both covered the team for an online publication during the 2011 season when LSU went 13-0 and appeared in the National Championship. We went to multiple road games together, including the “Game of the Century” in Tuscaloosa and the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. I think we had one of the most exciting first years of dating out of anyone we know! If it weren’t for LSU Football, I don’t know if we would have ever met! (We graduated on the same day in the same major from LSU and still didn’t know each other in college.)

Simply put, LSU Football is special. It’s extremely special to me and my family, our friends, fans and the entire state of Louisiana.

I CAN HONESTLY SAY, I DON’T KNOW WHERE I WOULD BE WITHOUT LSU FOOTBALL.

The university’s main slogan is, “Love Purple, Live Gold”, and while it may be hard to explain to some, there is a just a special type of feeling LSU fans get when hearing those four simple words. I think of growing up a Tiger fan to my four years as an undergraduate to working for the university, earning my Master’s and supporting this team on a daily basis. It’s hard to put into words what these colors mean, but it is something special that unites all Tiger fans.

5 Pieces to Create the Perfect Gameday Outfit

Y’all know by now that I love to put together my gameday outfits, but what I wear each game is a little different than the average fan. Obviously, I work with a purple and gold palette like all Tiger fans, but I am a little more dressed up since I am working at each game. I grew up going to LSU football games and watched from the stands for years, so I still have a good idea of the necessities you need for a cool and comfortable gameday look. Here are my five main things that you need to create the perfect gameday outfit.

1. CLEAR BAG

There’s no official gameday dress code, but if you go to an LSU Athletics event, then you have to Geaux Clear. The university instituted its clear bag policy a few years ago and it’s enforced at each football game. All NFL stadiums and many other college stadiums have similar clear bag rules, so make sure you check before going to an event. This also includes other non-sporting events held at each stadium.

I love this bag by Geaux Clear Collection, because it looks great on gameday and can also be worn with an outfit Monday – Friday. (I also like this style.) The gold pouch inside of the clear bag is removable, which is an added bonus. The owner of Geaux Clear Co. is also an LSU grad and clearly knows the ins and outs of a good gameday outfit! 2. COOL OUTFIT

This means cool weather-wise and cool in style. LSU ladies, as well as most other SEC glas, don’t just wear a plain ole’ t-shirt for gameday, but actually put together cute outfits that represent the Tigers. The majority of our games are played in pretty hot temperatures, so lighter fabric options are essential. I kept reading rave reviews about these shorts, and I love them for those hot Louisiana days! Graphic tees (like these by SFT) are cute and comfy for all-day wear, and flowy tanks and blouses are also good choices.

3. COMFY SHOES

There is a lot of walking on gameday, so it is oh-so important to wear shoes that are comfortable for a full day of activity. The game might not kickoff until after the sun sets, but LSU fans get to campus way before then. I prefer closed toe shoes on gameday, because walking from tailgate to tailgate and then sitting in the stands (and then possibly going out after the game) can get a little dirty. Also, don’t wear any shoes that you would be upset if they got messed up.

4. SUNGLASSES

You will be on campus from morning to night, and you do not want to be stranded without a pair of sunglasses. They are a crucial part to any gameday outfit. I buy a new pair of Ray-Bans each year, and this pair is easily my favorite right now. I think the style is universally flattering on everyone. I always feel more comfortable with a big pair of sunglasses on!

5. GAMEDAY ACCESSORIES

You have the perfect outfit with your clear bag, your shades on, comfy shoes picked out and now it’s time to accessorize in your team’s colors! Purple and gold are the geaux-to colors around here, but I get that they aren’t every fan’s favorite. Kendra Scott now has a full gameday collection filled with perfect colors to represent your university or pro team. My jewelry box is packed with multiple shades of purple, gold and yellow, but Kendra Scott has narrowed down the exact LSU purple and yellow to wear on gamedays. This is, in fact, a big deal.

The first official day of spring was earlier this month, and for once, it actually felt spring-y in Louisiana. These days are few and far between down here in the South, so I want to soak up every pretty day there is before temps reach triple digits. This also means that I get to put my spring clothing rack of new items to good use. I started my one-minute outfit posts as a way to help other women like me who live for each and every minute of their crazy mornings. I have a staff meeting on most mornings at 8:00 a.m., which means I know I have to leave the house in the precise timeframe of 7:30-7:35 a.m. If the clock hits 7:36 a.m. and I still haven’t left, I begin to panic. Some mornings (a.k.a. rare mornings) I have it more together than others, but a lot of times I am looking for a quick work outfit to help me get out of the house on time. Enter this navy jumpsuit.

Each New Year I hear people say, “New year, new you.” Well, I don’t exactly approach it like that. For me, it’s more like, “New year, improved you,” which is a lot easier to handle and a much more realistic goal. Not only am I always looking to improve upon myself, but my personal style gets a little revamp each year as well.

I’m not one of those people who is overly concerned with getting older, and in terms of style, I feel my personal style has only become better with age. Sometimes those Facebook memories from 8+ years ago can look pretty scary, but everyone goes through those trendy parts of life and lives through them. Here are a few rules that I have come up with over the last three decades that have helped me define my personal style.
